How to Restore a Previous Version of a File

If you're like me, you've accidentally deleted or corrupted a file and did not have a good version of that particular document. In Windows Vista, you can now restore a previous version of a file.

To accomplish the steps neccessary to restore a file to an earlier state:

  1. Open the folder that contains the file you want to restore
  2. Right-click your mouse button on the file.
  3. Click Restore previous versions.

    Windows Vista displays the file's Properties dialog box and the Previous Versions tab. The versions list displays the previous versions of that file.
  4. Click a previous version
  5. Click Restore.
