Thought of the day

There are many thoughts we have easily over 40,000 a day. I just want to add one more.

A rolling Stone

"A rolling stone gathers no moss." I'm willing to bet everyone has heard that saying before. Have you ever given it much thought? When do you use that saying?  I think I’ve used it most when I really want to light a fire under my daughters to inspire them to do something; like clean their room.

But if you think about it, does this ol’ saying have a deeper meaning?  For instance, moss only seems to grow on one facing of the stone or tree, normally the north facing where I live.  Well, if the stone is rolling the side facing north is always moving so not very vulnerable to the attack of moss.  So, perhaps another meaning to this saying would be; “keep your attackers perplexed – keep moving”.

Now if the stone is moving (rolling) it’s obvious that moss (which is a very clinging type of plant) will not be able to gain root footing in order to grow.  So, naturally moss will not grow on a moving rock.  So, it’s pretty easy to say that if you are in action you will not attract to you those adherents that would cling closely to you.  Oh, they will try, but usually only those YOU grab out for will go on the ride with you, the others will fall to the wayside.

For me the essence of this idiom is “ACTION”.  I have come to know that action is the only thing that produces results.  I’ve read, and read, studied and learned all my life.  I’ve know for decades what the Masters have taught the world for centuries.  Did any of make a difference in my life?  No, not until action was involved.

If you life is not going how you want it to go, then consider some ACTION, but change directions.  It doesn’t have to be big, it can be just a small thing – but the key is don’t just talk about it – DO IT!
