This weekend I got a good sampling of the Law of Attraction. I was reminded once again what it means to have been created in the image and likeness of God. The divine power of creation is a wonderful thing – or at times can be a daunting experience.
Let me explain; a few weeks ago my daughter’s car broke down, and it turned out to be a costly head gasket repair that was needed. Now I’ve blown a few head gaskets in my day and having experienced this with her, I became a bit anxious about my own car. I became more vigilant about watching the heat gage and making sure the car had coolant so that it wouldn’t overheat.
This last Saturday, I had a good deal of driving to do and most of it on the highway. I remember thinking today would not be a good day to break down, especially on the highway. I end up at my first destination which happens to be the new cathedral in Oakland CA. I was there to share a spiritual celebration with a number of teens I’d mentored over the last year or so. The building is beautiful, and the ceremony was very touching. After the ceremony I happily started off to my next destination and just as I had been thinking (fearing), my car over heated on the highway!
Immediately I pulled over into a space between the on ramp and the highway itself (I had no idea how far the nearest off ramp was). So I’m sitting there and shaking my head at my own silliness; why would I want to bring such a thing down on my own head by thinking such negative thoughts?! It’s as the Buddha says, “… as we think, so we become”, and Jesus when he said, “… ask and it shall be given …”. So I’m stranded on the highway without a cell phone, fearful that one of the speeding cars on either side of me will hit me and make mincemeat out of me and my car. Well, I catch that thinking right away and stop it!! Instead I focus on my rescue and sure enough after only a few minutes, the Highway Patrol comes along to push me off the freeway.
I end up getting a tow and later, on my bus ride home, I meet this amazing man that has worked in Group Homes all his life. I only started working in a Group Home part time this month – it is an amazing and very different environment. This man I met was full of wisdom, advice and caring – it was a joy to have met him.
I was shown, once again, we create our world. Let’s create the best one we can.
