Got STRESS?!
~ Got STRESS?! ~
How do you handle stress? How well you can handle stress can make or break how well you can succeed, or move forward. Some people identify stress as a form of friction, and we all know that car tires REQUIRE friction if it’s to move forward. So if you want to get to that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, you have to have at least a little stress; it’s not a bad thing.
But on the other hand, stress can KILL you. I believe it was stress that triggered my heart attach. Of course there were a lot of other factors, but it was stress that brought the boom down! Stress has a way of making us ‘freeze up’, or we can become depressed and that leads to a whole other set of problems. Some people work best under stress, or so they say, but many of these people seem to burn out quickly.
So how about we try to remember this when we start to feel stressed?:
Stop
Talk
Relax
Exercise
Sleep
Start over
When we feel overly stressed we have to stop right then and there before anything goes wrong. Talk to someone about how you feel. If your stress is work related talking to a trusted supervisor is a good place to start. They have an invested interest in your well-being. Otherwise you can talk to any trusted love one. You can also talk to trusted 3 rd parties, like a therapist or priest if the stress is severe enough. Relax… I recommend that everyone go out and buy a deep relaxation CD if you don’t know how to relax when feeling stressed (not just a meditation CD either, but a good relaxation CD). For some people it’s nearly impossible to unwind that spring once it’s all wound up. A CD you can listen to is a great aid. Exercise: you don’t want your stress to freeze you up or depress you. To help counter this exercise is perfect. It will get you moving and release those ever helpful endorphins, the original happy drug. Sleep, well this obviously goes hand in hand with some relaxation but it does more than that. I regenerates the body after exercise, and if you play your cards right, you will dream. Dreaming is book by itself, just suffice it to say that Jung tells us that our dreams are merely a subconscious extension of our conscious life. Unless I miss my guess you were dreaming about the stress situation already. Well, now you are better prepared to dream about how you can FIX some of that stress. If you're good at remembering your dreams this can be a good tool to help you move forward. And lastly; Start over - like they always say, ya gotta get back up on the horse. Well, I say you don't have to, but if you don't it's going to be a long walk back, and who wants that?! So start over, but this time you are more relaxed... you feel good from exercising you're well rested and you are prepared to move forward. So put the rubber to the road, and make it count!
Bright blessings ~ Richard
