How long can you tread water (or cream?)

How long can you tread water (or cream?)

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” I don’t know if it was Kneut Rockney or Joseph Kennedy that first said that, but either way the truth of it is the reason it has withstood the sands of time. To me the meaning is pretty clear, but I’ve heard others put twists on it. For example, when things get difficult, “the tough” run away. Or “If the tough had gotten going earlier, maybe the going would never have gotten tough!”
To me, this mean when our lives become overwhelming, we either sink or swim – the tough will swim. I watched the movie “Catch Me If You Can” the other night for some entertainment, and I loved the little motivational story that was told in the movie: “Once upon a time there were two mice that fell into a bucket of cream. One mouse drowned pretty quickly, the other mouse swam and made such a stir that he churned the cream into butter and climbed out.” Can you tell which mouse was ‘tough’?
