Thought of the day

There are many thoughts we have easily over 40,000 a day. I just want to add one more.

How much is that robot in the window?
The Druid's Grove ~ Thought of the Day

"Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You."

(Dr. Suess )

How much is that robot in the window?

Are we keeping up with our technology? It’s not very easy I think. Do you know what Web 2.0 is? Did you know that employers are starting to ask for social networking skills in their job postings? Did you ever think that because you use MySpace or Twitter that it would help you get a job?

We all know how quickly our own computers are obsolete. I’m still working on an old XP computer. My kids ask, “What’s that?” With a new operating system coming out almost every year it’s nearly impossible to keep up. Did you that your laptop is more sophisticated then the computers on any of the Apollo space flights?! What of our medical ‘miracles’? Do you have a hip replacement? If not I bet you know someone that has. In the USA alone there are 13 hip replacements done every hour on an annual basis. What about open heart surgery? In 2006 in the USA there were 694,000 total open heart surgeries (this included bypasses, valve replacement and transplants.) Removing your heart and putting another one in, in its place has become routine. Think about the idea of a ruptured appendix. Today the damage is corrected in a flash (it's almost outpatient surgery). 100 years ago, the child that suffered a ruptured appendix probably died.

“What’s your point, Richard?” you ask. Well, I’m wondering is our sense of ethics is growing at the same rate as our technology. Of course our medical breakthroughs are spectacular, but we are still arguing if abortions should be allowed, and Roe v Wade was passed in 1973; 36 years ago! Now our minor children can obtain an abortion without parental consent. Soon technology will allow us to provide prosthetic limbs to people that are so advanced they will function by electronic impulses from the brain. It’s being worked on today. The science fiction Cyborg will be among us all too soon (if it’s not already). And I won’t even open the genetic and cloning can of worms. Are we prepared? Are we discussing the future and where the quick fix attitude is taking us? I don’t think so.

Think about it, talk about it. Remember the quick fix today, is tomorrows break down.

Love and Bright blessings ~ Richard

Don't forget to take a look at my book too!

Can someone please tell me why my life sucks?!

Do you have that friend that is always saying; "It'll never work." Have you heard them say, "I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist!". If you know someone like that then they need my book. Its a little book packed full of perspective to help anyone stay on course - it's better than a compass!
