Thought of the day

There are many thoughts we have easily over 40,000 a day. I just want to add one more.

Life's double edged sword!

When something means enough to us, those are definitely the things we end up going for. I’m not talking just about the material things either, but the spiritual and emotional things too; love, solitude, peace. If the desire is strong enough then we are easily motivated to move in that direction. Many of us use a default map or plan, and wait for desire to get strong enough to move us. That’s OK in some respects although I think whoever uses a default map, instead of a set goal and plan are at a great disadvantage.

Here’s the rub, as Shakespeare would say; No matter if you have a goal and plan, or you allow your wants to grow by default – we are talking about desire. The Buddhist taught us about this life’s double edged sword; “it is our desire that brings suffering into our lives”. ACKKK! You mean I cannot HAVE what I want to have MOST, without suffering?!! What a rip off – I want to speak to the manager! Well, raise your eyes and voice to the heavens and start talkin’, because that’s the way it is.

But you know as well as I do, there is another saying (probably started by a Buddhist), “no pain, no gain”. There’s nothing to say that we cannot obtain our richest desire, we just have to accept the fact that we have to pay for it. “Nothing is free in this life”. And besides, be honest, would you truly value ‘it’, if it just fell into your lap? I don’t think so.

So, next time you feel as if you are suffering way too much for one person to bare, perhaps you need to ask yourself; what desire do I have that is causing this pain? Is it worth it?
