I’ve
often contemplated on what might be the opposite of Love. Of course we are taught right off the bat
that Hate is the opposite of Love. Then
I once heard someone speak and they were saying that Apathy was the opposite of
love. Their perspective was that you
still care enough about someone to hate them.
So if love is total caring… the opposite of it would be total uncaring,
which would be apathy.
But
over time, I’ve come to understand that the opposite of love is fear. Not only
that, these are the ONLY two primary emotions we have as humans. Every other emotion will spring forth from one
of these two emotions. Fear is the
father of so many things. Fear actually
is the father of both hate and apathy for example. Love is the mother of caring, sympathy,
empathy, and so much more. I do use the
archetype of mother and father in this example for obvious reasons. Mother Love is nurturing and all things
soft. Father Fear is powerful and
persuasive.
Love
is expansive. When we are in love
everything seems brighter and bigger.
Our moods are greater than we think we could ever feel. Love creates and binds.
Fear
is constrictive. It’s like a black hole
and sucks into it everything that is not nailed down. Fear takes us to the darkest places in our
mind, and traps us there. Fear destroys
and puts asunder.
Fear
motivates, Love inspires; Fear hides, Love accepts; Fear constricts, Love
loosens; Fear holds on to, Love lets go; Fear in not, Love is.
You
have a 50% chance of getting it right.
Which do you choose? Love or Fear?
