I have heard some people talk as if they were above nature. The ones that argue; "mankind has not CAUSED global warming!" or worse those that don't even believe in global warming. I have to admit, I always turn a puzzled look to these people. Yes, we the human race have been destined to be caretakers of the Earth, but this does not take away our own nature. We are every bit a part of nature as the trees, water and air that we breathe, and we will be of the first to go if we are not careful.

I remember growing up, there was a small creek just down the street from my home. My brothers and friends and I would spend hours at that creek, playing under the wooden footbridge hunting for minnows and crawdads. I look down the lane today, (no longer dirt now, but covered with asphalt) and I see no horse pasture where the creek flowed – I see no wooden footbridge and I see no creek. What did we, the caretakers of this planet do with all that? More importantly why? Well, the why is pretty clear; Money. Instead of the horse pasture and creek I see houses. House upon house, without even a yard to plant a decent sized garden.

I urge anyone reading these words today, to get back in touch with nature, and to encourage someone else to do the same. When I say get back in touch, I mean this quite literally. When was the last time you actually touched a living tree to feel the roughness of the bark – just for the sake of that feeling? When was the last time you walked barefoot in the grass? When was the last time you waded in the neighborhood pond? When was the last time to climbed to the highest point just to feel the wind blow through your hair? I promise you if you allow yourself this connection, and truly feel connected to the nature for which you are part of… you will know a power. And this is not the power of your Self… this is not the power of the Caretaker, this is not the power of a human being that can take nature and seemingly bend it to your will… This power is greater than all those things. A power that connects you to every living thing. The power of connectedness – oneness

And if you’re not careful it will knock you on your ass!
