The Brass Ring
In
the old days, when the children rode the ‘Merry-Go-Round’, there was a bracket
hanging off on of the walls that was barely in range of the ride. Hanging from this bracket were always a few
brass rings. There always seemed to be
more brass rings on the floor however, then hanging from the bracket. The idea was if you could grab a brass ring
you could have another ride on the merry-go-round for FREE!
Of
course the smaller children like me were excluded from this game because there
was just NO WAY of grabbing a ring without slipping and falling off the horse
to moving ground below. Still, the big
kids played with great hope, quite ignoring all the rings that were lying on
the ground; signs of a failed attempt.
Are
you grabbing at brass rings in your life?
Are you wanting a ‘do-over’, are you wanting a free ride? Well, just like the merry-go-round, there are
free rides for some, but not that many.
More often than not your attempt at a free ride will end up lying on the
ground - worthless. If you want a
do-over, it’s easier and more important just to pay the price.
I’m
not saying do not try for the brass ring.
By all means make a go for it.
Who knows, it will be fun, and it might be your turn. And even if you don’t get it, you’ll learn a
valuable lesson. I hope that lesson will
be in part be, that there are no free
rides – that paying the price is what we all must do; someway, somehow.
