Well, 2008 is almost over. We’ll be starting the count-down to 2009 in just a number of hours really (yes, it will pass that quickly – you’ll see). So, while we are here, let’s take a moment to think about what this year meant to you.
Did you get everything you were hoping to get? If you think you suffered a loss or failure, are you sure it was a loss or failure? What lessons have learned this year? Actually my hope is that you can say, “yes”, to all those questions. If you had a productive year, you will have experienced getting what you want… you will have experienced loss, and what some call failure – in a productive year, you will have experienced all of it, in my opinion.
Your successes are wonderful. They are proof to you that what you set your mind to you will achieve, as long as you don’t undermine or self sabotage yourself. Successes are brought about by dream it, plan it, live it. Those are the things that you acted on whole heartedly and when I say that, I mean you actually acted on these successes with a passion, a love that moved you forward every inch of the way.
And what of your failures? Well, first I would hope that you can get past the missing the mark part of things. It is a matter of perspective and how you assign meaning to your life. Did you fail to invent the light bulb, or did you figure out several ways not to make a light bulb (as T. Edison would say). Did you have a failed relationship this year that broke your heart, or did you learn the exact qualities that will be possessed by your future husband or wife! These choices are yours to make.
Take some time in the next day or two and write out a list of all your success, and near successes. Use this list to come up with your goals and plan for 2009. Then start 2009 with the intention that will be better than ever!
Bright blessings ~ Richard
