Thought of the day

There are many thoughts we have easily over 40,000 a day. I just want to add one more.

There is no Shadow without Light.

Many of you that have read my writing have read a little bit about the Shadow.  The Shadow is a Jungian concept and speaks to all those evil little traits or character ‘flaws’ we choose to deny exist and subsequently push them deep into our subconscious. Usually these traits are those dark aspects of life, such as being a bully, or bitch, or arrogant and selfish.  Few people in life want to be known for these traits so we put them deep into our “bag” as Robert Bly would say.  Debbie Ford speaks a great deal to this subject and you can get her excellent book, The Dark side of the Light Chasers, via my website.

But I want to talk about the “Light Shadow” today.  Just as we all have a dark side, we also have a light, bright and shining side that we cannot for one reason or another share with the world.  Usually, we do not share this part of us because of fear.  The woman that is sweet and loving but was terribly hurt in her relationships may hide that sweetness in fear of being hurt again.  The man that is creative and inventive sits quietly at the conference room table, afraid to speak up with his ‘bright’ ideas because he never seems to be taken seriously.

We all have a light shadow as well as that pesky dark shadow.  The easiest way to know our light shadow is pretty much the way we know our darkness; by our projection.  Have you ever met someone that you completely idolized?  Saying to your self, “I wish I could be like him/her”.  Well the truth of the matter is, YOU CAN.  Your projected light shadows are those qualities in you that you are hiding from the world for some reason.  The trick is owning them, and not being afraid to let the world see them.  I know many many people that have such a very bright light shadow.  But they constantly are saying things like; “I don’t mean to sound like a bitch, BUT…”   Well, if you don’t want to, then DON’T!

Let that light shadow out… you’ll be happy you did!
