What are you afraid of?

What are you afraid of?
|
“There is nothing to fear, except fear itself”; Franklin D. Roosevelt said that, and what a crock huh? THERE IS A TON TO FEAR. Can your ego get you through a day without fearing something? Are you afraid you’re going to be late? Afraid you’re not going to do well? Afraid you are going to do too well? Afraid you left the stove on? Afraid he’s / she’s not going to like you? I mean come on, if we don’t have something to worry about or something to fear where will we be?!
Well, the thing is, FDR didn’t really say there is nothing to fear … what he said is, if we’re really going to fear something, we should be afraid of fear … now that’s got some zing to it!
Fear can be a very motivating emotion, but it can also be a very restrictive and confining emotion; FDR recognized this. Even The Course of Miracles tells us there is nothing to fear, unless we believe in illusions. Oh, it all gets so confusing. Do we create our own reality? Or is it all an illusion? Do we dance with the rattlesnakes or just go to church every Sunday?
Here’s the bottom line, fear can help to protect you; it can also shut you down. Stay aware and keep your fear in perspective. Remember, if it doesn’t kill you, it’s only going to make you stronger – so be afraid of those thing that will kill you – everything else – is gravy.
