Have you ever walked away from one of your teachers at school, and were confounded by what they had to teach you? But after you got home and a little time of quiet study, you “get it” as if struck by lightning? Quite frankly, math was that way for me quite often.
Rest assured that you spiritual journey will be no different. And if you are one of the fortunate ones that “get it” right from the start, I still don’t think that will be your situation on a spiritual journey. Why? Because I think it must be written in some Spiritual Masters Handbook somewhere that spiritual masters must be a little (if not a lot) obtuse in their teaching. The Buddha was pretty straight forward, but even some of his teachings catch us off guard; “ Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened.”. OK, I get that from the perspective of the candle – it’s sound physics, but in a spiritual sense, what’s he talking about? Jesus, did the exact same thing with the parables that he was famous for – “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle …”. Huh?!
Well, if you are on a spiritual journey, fear not. This style of teaching is chosen by the Masters on purpose. You would clearly not be the only one confused. Growing up, and even now, in the Christian tradition, I’ve been exposed to various Bible studies. If everyone got it, then we wouldn’t need to study the Bible. The Masters need you to take time and with silence go inside yourself to find the answers. We don’t need to be “taught” anything. Even that Math homework is waiting inside you, waiting for you to push the right button so your mind can say… “OHHHH Yeah!, now I get it”. So too is your spiritual awareness inside you. The Masters are now waiting for you to push that button, so you can say; “HALALUAH!!! I get it!”.
