What's your PROBLEM?!
“What’s your problem?!” How many times have you heard that one in
your life? I’m willing to bet that 80%
of the time, you will (or want to) respond to that with, “YOU, you’re my
problem!” But is that really true?
I understand how other people can
get on our last nerve. I understand how
they can dig so far under our skin sometimes it feels as if they’ve taken up
residence in our body! It’s so easy to
be caught up in the wake of other people; usually these people are perceived as
stronger or somehow more important than us.
But can they REALLY control you like that? Eleanor Roosevelt said they cannot; “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
There’s lots of people out there that have no life, so their only
joy is to get one by taking yours. Don’t
let them. Yes, I know… I hear it all the
time; “Easier said then done”. OK, here
is the secret to that – EVERYTHING is easier SAID than DONE, but NOTHING is
done if not first SAID. We have become a
nation of people pleasers. It’s ok to
make others happy, but is it still OK to do so at the expense of your own
happiness? I wouldn’t think so. So if your boss is crawling up your
you-know-what, all you have to do is fart!
Example – you boss is telling you, you have to finish this project by
the end of the day. To you that is only
2 hours away (normal quitting time). You
know the boss usually stays 2 or 3 hours past quitting time every day. Stand up for your rights at that point, by
letting them know you don’t think you can give the project justice in only 2
hours will they approve the overtime pay?
It can be a win / win situation if you want it to be. Or if you simply
cannot stay because of prior commitments simply say that.
So, what’s your problem?
