“Dream it, plan it, live it”. I’m sure you’ve heard this before. You might have even tried it. The positive development world is all abuzz with such dogma. It’s a pretty good way to look at things if you as me. There is a lot of opposition to it though. There is even a type of person out there, and you probably even have one in your life, that does not believe in dreams. Perhaps they lost their dreams long ago. So long ago that they don’t even remember having a dream (I know someone like that).
In loosing their dream they got swept in a default life basically. Of course they made choices, but the choices they made were reactionary. They lived a life of reaction instead of a life of action. I encourage all my clients and friends to make sure they are clear about their goals, and their action plan. As Debbie Ford says; “… you wouldn’t plan a trip across country without a plan, why would you live your life without one …”.
Is it wrong to live without a plan? No, it’s not wrong – in fact millions of people do it every day of their life. But what do you think is the difference between those millions of people, and the 5% that have risen to the top? Are those 5% smarter than you? Many of them do not even have a college education. Are they luckier than you? Maybe – if you believe in luck, and as Thomas Jefferson said; “I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it”. Do they have a deeper spiritual life? Maybe, but what about the Baptist minister Jimmy Swaggert? He lost everything because he had a thing for prostitutes; somehow I don’t think that was his plan. No… the only thing the 5% have on you and me is a plan, and a driving passion to stick to it. Yeah, yeah… they have money, but where do you think it came from? It too was part of the plan.
If you don’t have a plan, I recommend you putting your goals and plans together right away. A tool I use to help collect my thoughts for goal planning and mapping, is the software 'Inspiration'. It was originally designed to help student write essays, but it works great for pulling your thoughts together.. .check it out at http://www.inspiration.com/Inspiration
Dream it – plan it – live it. Dreams can come true.
