You can't tell a book by its cover
One hot summer day, as the sun beat down upon me from a clear blue sky, I found myself walking along a small stream. The dragonflies danced over the surface of the water and occasionally a trout would spring from the depths trying to catch an early lunch. It was a good day and the worries of my world had been left some where behind me. I was sure I would find them on my way back, but for now it was good to not have them with me.
As I walked, a glimmer of light from the stream caught my eye and attention. I could not quite make out what caused such a thing, but my curiosity got the better of me. So, taking off my shoes and socks, rolling up my pants so they would not get wet, I stepped into the water. I was surprised at how cold it was, on such a hot day. I sat there on the banks for a moment enjoying the different temperatures of nature. I could feel the sweat running down the back of my neck with the noon day sun beating down upon me, while my feet were enjoying the coolness of the water.
I stood and headed over to the glimmering light. I bent down and picked it up from out of the water, and what did I find; it was just an old piece of broken glass. No treasure worthy of finding or worth a million. Just an old broken bottle that had been polished by years of water running over it. Strangely it did not glimmer in my hand. All I felt was its coolness and smoothness. I returned it to its place in the stream and went back to the bank. When I looked back, I was surprised to see it shining back at me again.
I left the river bank, carrying my shoes; I headed back toward my worries. But my heart was lighter as I thought about the glimmer of a simple piece of broken glass.

In days gone by, our ancient elders would teach with a story. It has been said that the shortest way to a human being and the truth is a story. Jesus understood this, and often taught in parable. Now I am not saying I am a Master, but what did you learn from my story? What truth touched your heart?
