Catch the Buzz with Buzzword
Buzzword, an on-line word processor from Adobe, offers enough advanced features that many users may find it more convenient than other office suite offerings.
This program, using the latest version of Flash, provides all of the important features that are expected in a modern word processor from any computer with web access and updated software. It is easy to forget the application is being run over the web because it often runs more quickly than local applications, but this could change with a greater user load.
While some features are removed from Buzzword, users looking to just type a paper may actually appreciate the lack of extraneous features. One drawback that takes some adjustment is the lack of right-click functionality. This is probably one of the only times you will realize you are in a web browser. The authors did a great job, however, in providing other ways of completing common tasks.
Overall, this is a great program for typing quick papers. It is not capable of mail merges, grammar check, or some other advanced features, but collaboration is better than other offerings, just share the document, and since it is on-line, there is no need to worry about transporting files. One drawback is that it is not available unless the computer has the most recent version of Flash. This may mean your file would not be available on a public computer. Still, this free service gets a must try.
