Is Leopard Better?

With the release of Leopard less than two weeks away, some people may be wondering whether they should switch to the new operating system. As with all software, Simplicity Force recommends waiting for a thorough review of the release version before making a final decision, but for those who need the new version when it first ships here are some key considerations:
  • A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor and DVD drive is required for installation. This describes most newer Macs, but it is not possible to install Leopard on a computer currently running Windows.
  • The increased processing requirement will probably mean Leopard will run slower than Tiger, so installing Leopard on a computer that is already running slow may be a bad idea. This will become more clear after the product is released.
  • Time machine will require an additional hard drive.
  • Users wanting to run Windows will need a copy of Windows XP or Vista.
Anyone interested in upgrading the first day who needs to do some system tuning still has eleven days before the new system is available.
