Using Google Docs? Keep Searching!
With the amount of great press reviews received by Google Docs, an amazing product was anticipated. Google Docs, however, is nowhere near ready to replace the desktop word processor.
Using Google Docs feels more like using an old web based e-mail program than a word processor. While it can perform many, if not most, of the functions of a desktop application, it just doesn't feel natural. For example, spell checking doesn't take place as you type. Instead it is necessary to enter a new area and make corrections one at a time. It appears the whole system (including the documents themselves) is based on HTML, which isn't bad, but even web developers want more features than HTML offers.
Google Docs may be useful for sharing documents if another system is not in place. It should also work with almost any web browser. With the limited features, however, most people can find better.
