It always cracks me up when friends and/or family tell me that they aren’t allowed to download music to their iPod from more than one computer. “Allowed or don’t know how to configure your device?” I ask. “Allowed! If you try, then it will delete all the songs, playlists, videos, everything you currently have on your iPod. They do it this way to limit piracy of copyrighted material.”

Of course emphatic, all knowing statements like this make me smile. When I tell them that this is not only untrue but you can manage and download from multiple computers, I receive great thanks and praise. I bask in the glory of solving their problem they perceived as not solvable. I am the greatest digital magician the world has ever known, right? Ummm, no, I’m willing to bet not even close, but hey, who doesn’t like the flattery right? It’s only later after they are deeply indebted to me (I’m kidding) that I tell them any person would know this if they went to www.apple.com, downloaded the manual and read it.

This is straight from apple's help section:
By default iPod is set to "Automatically sync songs to my iPod" sometimes called automatic mode. In order to transfer music from multiple computers iPod must be set to "Manually manage music" sometimes referred to as manual mode. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61675
