The summer is over. As your kids head back to school, here are some tips to help keep them active and fit now that activities and camps have ended.
1. Find activities happening throughout the school year
Organized sports teams are a great way to keep kids active, because it keeps them accountable.
2. Also making a plan at home
Create a fun poster board that’s colorful with an exercise plan. Seeing mom and dad work out makes kids much more likely to make it a habit themselves.
3. Have healthy snacks prepared
When the school year comes, it becomes difficult to maintain a healthy routine with so much going on. Be prepared! Have healthy snacks ready to go in your car when picking up your kids from school. This will avoid them from asking you to stop at the fast food places or convenient stores to grab a quick snack. Smoothies are another great idea! A sweet treat that’s cool or refreshing—you can throw some spinach in there and they won’t even know it’s there!
4. Make fitness and health a priority in your day
Just like eating dinner at the table as a family, just like brushing your teeth before you go to bed, making health and fitness a routine is extremely important aspect of that. Try walking to school as a family instead of driving. Walk to the store that’s down the street. When you’re planning family activity nights, think about something other than going to the movies. Try bowling, rock climbing, or even a trampoline gym! There are a lot of options out there for families that want to stay active together, so find something good in your neighborhood, and keep your family moving and healthy!
