DaveF   Quick Tax Advice from an Enrolled Agent

If you have personal income tax questions you’ve clicked on the right guy

WELCOME TO TAX SEASON 2003. This will be my 4th year serving the Keen.com community. I am usually available a minimum of eight hours a day, seven days a week! If I am unavailable, please feel free to book an appointment.

If you have personal income tax questions, you’ve clicked on the right guy! Last year alone I prepared over eight hundred individual income tax returns (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ and related schedules). I specialize in individuals returns, small businesses and rental real estate. With over fifteen years accounting and tax experience, I can help pave the way to a larger refund.

I will usually be available for Keen Seekers a minimum of eight hours a day. With over 900 Keen calls taken, I am proud to be one of the highest ranking Keen.com Tax Speakers.

Most calls average five minutes (remember, they are tax deductable) so please make sure you have funded your Keen account before initiating the call. I never drag out the call! My goal is to get the answers to your questions as accurately and swiftly as possible. If I need to do additional research, I WILL NOT keep you on the line, and will reply via Keen Mail ASAP.

Note to those seeking email solutions: I am pleased to offer my assistance via email to those who do not wish to speak through the phone. However, due to the amount of time it takes to type a reply vs. speaking on the phone, my minimum fee is $15 unless you need a yes or no answer. Please feel free to email me for a quotation.

You will not be disappointed! Here are just some of the topics I specialize in:

DEDUCTIONS

Itemizing -- when is it actually better to take the standard deduction?

Medical expenses – got an addiction? I know which treatments can be claimed.

Home mortgage interest – there's a good reason why lenders always tell you to check with your tax advisor first!

Contributions – donating that used car? Why not just send the IRS an invitation that says "AUDIT ME!"

Employee expenses – check with me before you deduct that uniform, laptop or home office!

Education expenses – you can deduct them in three places. Put them on this form and it could save you thousands of dollars!

Teachers and Principals - for 2002 there are 2 places you can deduct your teaching expenses... knowing where to deduct on your return could save you over $200!

Gambling losses – you can just reduce your reported winning by your losses, right? Wrong! Call me and find out where to deduct them.

CREDITS

Child Tax Credit – can you take this credit if you file separately?

Dependent Care Credit – not just for the kids!

Earned Income Credit – you can get part of it every week if you know which form you need to file with your employer!

INCOME AND PROFITS

Wages – what do you do if your employer has gone out of business?

1099 Forms – why the hell did they send that to me? Fish it out of the trash and call me now!

Sch B: Interest and Dividends – when should you cash in the kids savings bonds? Why thirteen could end up being your unlucky number.

Sch C: Business Income – put your kids on the payroll? Yes, and while we're at it, let's maximize your depreciation and home office deductions!

Sch D: Capital Gains – think you’re a "day trader"? IRS says, "Guess again!"

Sch E: Rental Income – that new bathroom is a $10,000 deduction, right? I know why your current deduction is only $15.15.

Hobby Income – why is the IRS eying your eBay, Half.com or KeenSpeaker payments? Talk to me to file a correct return and beat them to the punch!

MAXIMIZING YOUR REFUND!

Filing Status -- my wife walked out on me and the kids, now am I considered a head of household?

Dependents -- my daughter got married in November. Have I lost her exemption? Maybe not…

Injured Spouses -- how can I stop the IRS from snatching my refund because of my husband’s back child support, taxes and delinquent student loans?

Amendments -- I forgot to deduct my tax preparation fees for 2000. How do I amend my return and is it really worth it?

Please note that I do not provide advice for estate, gift and state tax questions other than Massachusetts, nor do I provide advice regarding Form 1040NR for nonresident aliens. I strongly endorse CathyT for these questions. You can contact her HERE
