The college selection, admssions, and financial aid processes can feel overwhelming. Finding the next best step in one's educational journey is an incredibly important, and often daunting, task. It is critical to find the right next step -- to find an educational opportunity that is the right fit -- both in terms of pedagogy as well as affordability.Many high school guidance counselors are unable to give their advisees adequate counseling regarding the college selection, admissions, and financial aid processes. Students who are homeschooled often don't know where to turn to find a knowledgeable person who can offer objective college counseling. The most important part of this process is knowing yourself. You must have a strong sense of who you are; you need not necessarily have a firm grasp of your academic interests. But, having a general idea of your strengths and weaknesses as well as your learning style is a fruitful place to begin. How does this work? First, we'll talk. I need to get a sense of you -- your dreams and passions. I need to know what kind of learning structures work best for you. I will also need a general sense, at least initially, of your family's financial resources so I can better assist in identifying options that will attainable, without having to borrow a fortune. I am qualified. I hold a Master's in Teaching from Seattle University. I have taught in several public schools in the State of Washington. I have taught SAT preparation courses for Upward Bound and Sylvan Learning Centers. I have served as a college admissions officer for several four-year colleges including both public and private institutions. I also have direct experience as a college financial aid counselor. Addidionally, I am the co-founder of Kestrel High School in Prescott, Arizona (www.kestrelhighschool.org). As a college admissions counselor, I have become familiar with the myriad of college opportunities in The United States. I am also intimately familiar with the financial aid process. My motive is to assist you in finding your next best step in your academic journey. It is personally very rewarding to know that my perspective has been helpful in clarifying the selection, admissions, and financial aid processes. As such, I have elected to charge a nominal rate for my services.
