Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Rob Malatesta, and I am the head personal trainer at Health Fitness Toronto, an organization committed to educating each client individually so as to maximize health and longevity, hence our slogan. I have been in the fitness industry for well over 13 years now and have seen every type of situation that can manifest itself. It is easy to make promises, but it is more important to look at the reasons why many people fall short of their desired fitness goals and explain how I can help to bridge the gap where others in the past may have fallen short.

To name just a few, there is poor diet, both the quality and duration of sleep, stress levels, psychological state of being, confidence level, degree of commitment and overall perseverance. This is not an exhaustive list, by any stretch, but a valuable insight into how many variables are involved in defining successful personal training. Notice that I didn't even mention anything about exercise itself in the list - neither concerning technique nor other parameters. That is a whole different animal.

As a fitness coach, I believe far more is involved than simply leading a client through basic exercise movements while making the occasional vague diet recommendation. Far too many personal trainers do this and it is insufficient. Every person must understand the logic behind the decisions that they make as well as see the benefits to making those decisions, and so education is key. This is the foundation to any successful endeavor and ensures that an individual will continue to make good decisions, even when not supervised. They will have both the knowledge to make the correct decision and the motivation to persist in doing so, since they are now confident that they are going in the right direction and are further motivated by seeing positive results that they might not otherwise have achieved.

My extensive background in human physiology, anatomy and biomechanics along with my experience in sports psychology and coaching allow me to practice a well rounded approach to personal training by working with the client on both a physical and emotional level. Performing rituals in the gym repeatedly, no matter how flawless the technique, will only get you so far if the proper mindset and motivation is lacking. Likewise, if one has a deficiency in some critical nutrient or suffers from chronic sleep deprivation, all the intensity in the world will only lead to burnout. It is imperative that every need is addressed and mandatory that unaddressed needs be immediately identified.
