Ever since I opened my auction house in 1983, I’ve been amazed at how curious people are about the things they own. Whether they have a Queen Anne highboy or china that’s been in their families for generations, a vintage watch or an etched glass vase, I’m asked two questions more than any others: What is it and what’s it worth?

The questions have followed me throughout my career – at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, when I sold my auction house to Sotheby’s in 1997, and when I film my two shows for HGTV, “At the Auction with Leslie Hindman” and “The Appraisal Fair.”
