The Counselors Corner Asperger's, Autism, PDD, and ED Support

I am the mother of a daughter and two sons, one who has Asperger's Syndrome and the other who has Non Verbal Learning Disorder. I work with teachers, counselors, siblings, and parents of children with disabilities on the Autism spectrum to develop and implement strategies for educating children with special needs, both academically and socially.狢 teach counselors how to work with children who have Austism spectrum diorders by modeling techniques of Brenda Smith Myles and others. These include Video Detective, Cartooning, Social Autopsies, Antiseptic Bouncing, and Body Mapping. I also work with parents who are frustrated with their school districts. I have a unique perspective because of my experience as a mother, special education teacher, and counselor. I have worked with emotionally disturbed children in crisis, coordinating the counseling with the curriculum, and initiating a team effort to help the student to function more fully both at home and in school.
