A member of Phi Theta Kappa, obtaining an A.A.S. from Monroe Community College, a B.S. in sociology/psychology from SUNY Brockport Cum Laude, and a Graduate Certificate in Psychology Counseling from Elmira College, Ms White began her career as a psychology technician in 1981 at the Canandaigua, NY VA Medical Center. Duties included psychological/neuropsychological testing, biofeedback evaluations/assessments for stress/pain and individual therapy. The majority of the veterans referred suffered from Post Traumatic Stress, both combat and non-combat related. Ms. White has attended numerous seminars and conferences presented by professionals and top experts in their various fields. Her on-the-job training was achieved by one-on-one instruction and supervision with Ph.D. Psychologists. As an undergrad very few people are lucky enough to have had this type of intensive, continuous education with actual work experience with clients. Beginning in September 1999, Ms. White began working directly in the PTSD clinic in the above mentioned Veterans Administration Medical Center as a Readjustment Counselor Specialist. At the same time she began a masters degree program in psychology from Capella University, which is fully accredited and accepted by the American Psychological Association. This degree in Addiction Psychology was obtained in January 2003 with a 4.0 average. The program was geared to those who were already working in the field. To complete this degree the following papers were researched and written: Grief, Bereavement and Suicide Survivors: Bereavement & Loss Therapy, Is there a connection between childhood insecure attachment and PTSD?, Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia, Stress & Disease-vs-The Relaxation Response, Substance Dependence and Vietnam Combat Veterans, and Assessment of PTSD in the Substance Abuser: Implications for treatment. Ms. White was board certified by the American Academy in Experts in Traumatic Stress as a Diplomat in 11/03 and was recognized as a Fellow in 4/05 for making outstanding contributions to the field of trauma research and treatment. She is an associate member of the American Psychological Association and a professional member of the NYS Mental Health Counselors Association. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NYS.
